The IPD / IPF UK Property Investment Awards are an annual event and are now in their 12th year.  They identify demonstrated and consistently measured real estate investment performance across 10 investor categories in the UK.  The awards, determined by IPD using standardised data held in its extensive databases, recognise independently verified investment performance by pension and life funds, pooled funds, property investment companies and other professionally managed real estate portfolios in the UK.  The awards are split into five main categories:

• Insurance Funds
• Pension Funds
• Balanced and Specialist Pooled Property Funds
• Traditional Estates and Data Quality
• An award for sustainability data was introduced in 2011

Awards are also split by fund size and are based either upon absolute 3-year annualised returns, or sector-relative 3-year annualised returns (for specialist funds). There is a further award, based upon a 10-year risk adjusted return criterion, which focuses upon the long term consistency of performance track records.

To be considered, all funds must be members of the IPD Portfolio Analysis Service.

2) Balanced Funds

• Insurance Company Life Funds (above £100m and below £1,000m, Dec 11) - Highest 3 year annualised return
• Insurance Company Life Funds (above £1,000m, Dec 11) - Highest 3 year annualised return
• Segregated Pension Funds (above £100m and below £500m, Dec 11) - Highest 3 year annualised return 
• Segregated Pension Funds (above £500m, Dec 11) - Highest 3 year annualised return
• Balanced Pooled & Traditional Funds (above £100m and below  £500m, Dec 11) - Highest 3 year annualised return
• Balanced Pooled & Traditional Funds (above £500m, Dec 11) - Highest 3 year annualised return
• Small balanced Funds (below £100m, Dec 11) - Highest 3 year annualised return

3) Specialist Funds

• Specialist Pooled Funds and Traditional Estates (below £500m, Dec 11) - Highest 3 year annualised return margin relative to IPD sector/segment weighted average 
• Specialist Pooled Funds and Traditional Estates (above £500m, Dec 11) - Highest 3 year annualised return margin relative to IPD sector/segment weighted average

4) 10-Year Risk Adjusted Return

• The 10 year award (all funds types) - Highest 10 year risk adjusted return

5) Sustainability data award

You must be a subscriber to the IPD Portfolio Analysis Service, a service which provides investors with an independent audit of their performance, set against a benchmark drawn from the relevant market or sector.
