As part of our strategy to be a responsible corporate citizen, we have taken a number of initiatives to support our industry, the community and the environment. The aim with these initiatives is to ensure the sustainability of our business, and create a link between our values and those of our customers and employees.

Supporting charities
Social investment is a vital part of the way we view ourselves as a business. We currently support a number of charities around the world on an ongoing basis. These charities mainly operate in the areas of property, education & children, and the environment. IPD staff members are encouraged to be directly involved in organising fund raising events to support these charities. Organisations being supported in 2012 include fundraising for Bakau New Town in The Gambia to provide amenities like a new well with clean water, and providing vital equipment to a school in Ethiopia where HIV+ orphans are educated alongside non HIV children.

Environmental policy
We are committed to minimising our impact on the environment by considering energy use, recycling waste and minimising business travel. We have travel and environment policies in place and encourage behavioural change from our staff. Our Occupiers service has produced the IPD Space Code and IPD Environment Code, with the aim of providing organisations with a tool and framework to improve their office space usage and analyse their environment impact. We measure our own offices according to these codes, and in our London office, we operate at just 7m2 per FTE which is much more efficient than average.
